Welcome Speech of the President of Kuwait University

Dear Colleagues,
For the fourth consecutive year, the Research Sector at Kuwait University is organizing the Fourth Scientific Research Conference under the patronage and presence of His Excellency the Minister of Scientific Research and Higher Education, Prof. Nader Al-Jallal.

The Research Sector is organizing the Scientific Poster Day on an annual basis for years, then the concept was evolved into a comprehensive scientific conference that includes panel discussions and scientific seminars directed and presented by scientists, researchers and professors from all around the world, making it an annual event widely anticipated by the scientific and academic communities.

This year, the conference is distinguished by addressing issues that came within the objectives of Kuwait's Vision 2035, as its topics varied between education, health, economy, energy, environment, in addition to the main axis of the role of the scientific research as a key pillar in strategic planning and state development.

Emphasis will also be placed on highlighting the vital role that Kuwait University plays in harnessing its potential and resources to accomplish scientific research of value, quality and originality.

The conference will also honor the winners of the best scientific posters, in addition to various exhibitions of scientific posters, laboratories of General Facilities and patents.

Such scientific events present an appropriate opportunity for experienced minds to come together and tackle pressing issues and develop proper solutions, which constitutes the main role of Kuwait University in addressing issues of concern to the state and society.

Welcome Speech of the Vice President of Kuwait University

Dear Colleagues,
The Scientific Research Conference, organized by the Research Sector at Kuwait University, has grown over the years into a key platform for researchers, academics, and innovators. Now in its fourth year, the conference continues to emphasize the transformative role of scientific research in shaping the future. This year’s event, titled "Advancing Excellence: Scientific Collaboration, Strategic Planning, and Research Prioritization in Enhancing Research Impact and Ranking," focuses on the vital contributions of research in advancing institutional rankings and driving sustainable development through strategic planning.

Originally launched as a poster competition, the initiative expanded into a conference—becoming a space for learning, discussion, and collaboration. Last year, it achieved a major milestone by transitioning to digital poster displays and adopting a paperless format, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and innovation in research dissemination.

As we do every year, we aim to focus on several key issues within scientific research:

This year’s discussions aim to:

  1. Enhance the role of scientific research in fostering academic excellence and improving institutional rankings.
  2. Highlight strategic research priorities that align with Kuwait Vision 2035, a roadmap for sustainable development. To this end, the Research Sector has set up research priorities in accordance with this vision, which will be introduced to Kuwait University researchers.
  3. Introduce researchers to agreements, memorandums of understanding, and cooperation protocols with local, regional, and international institutions to inspire impactful collaborations.

The conference also celebrates excellence by recognizing the outstanding achievements of researchers in the Scientific Poster Competition. Additionally, it will showcase Kuwait University’s patents, innovators, research units, and general facilities, alongside exhibitions from external research institutions, highlighting the breadth of academic and scientific achievements.

As Kuwait University empowers its talented researchers, the Research Sector remains dedicated to building a dynamic research environment that addresses current challenges while preparing for future opportunities. Together, through collaboration and innovation, we strive to drive a research ecosystem that supports Kuwait’s development and strengthens its global impact.

Thank you for your continued support.

Prof. Maie Dawoud Al Bader

Vice President for Research

Conference Agenda

Scientific Posters Exhibition

Kuwait University is proud to announce about having a specified section for an exhibition that will be a part of the upcoming conference displaying all the laboratories and its works of Kuwait University.

The Kuwait University through their annual Scientific Poster Day encourages researchers to display their scientific expertise and share their experience, research results and accomplishments with their colleagues, as well as inspire them to pursue their research interests, scientific ambitions and aspirations.

The total number of scientific poster participations for the academic year 2024/2025 was 367 scientific posters from all colleges at Kuwait University and from local research institutions. The participations were from different categories: academic staff, supporting academic staff, graduate students.

The local research institutions participating this year are: Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences - Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research - Kuwait Oil Company - Public Authority for Applied Education and Training - Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences.

5 years progress

The Scientific research poster participation has grown year-on-year multifold. With 172 posters in 2019/2020, the participation rose up to 367 posters by 2024/2025.

Entities Participating in the Scientific Poster

Specialized Research Units and General Facility Laboratories

The Research Sector (RS) at Kuwait University aims to create world-class infrastructure and equipment to support high-quality research. This includes the expansion and development of research core facilities, specialized units, and laboratories across faculties, equipped with advanced labs, instruments, machinery, and the trained personnel necessary for operation and maintenance. The goal is to foster an environment for advanced experimentation and analysis, supported by General Facilities (GF) grants, with a focus on fields like nanotechnology, proteomics, genomics, cell biology, and spectroscopy.

The Health Sciences Center has established a Research Core Facility (RCF) to enhance research in robotics, proteomics, genomics, and cell biology, with additional GF projects planned to expand its equipment. The Faculty of Dentistry has developed a Specialized Research Unit and Laboratory (SRUL) to focus on oral healthcare research specific to Kuwait. Similarly, the Engineering & Petroleum Faculty has developed Engineering Science Facilities (ESF) to advance research in nanotechnology and the petroleum industry, with ongoing GF projects to further expand these resources.

The Research Sector Projects Unit (RSPU) at the Faculty of Science is a well-established centralized lab facility, which is undergoing expansion through GF projects to serve research needs in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and other departments. The National Unit for Environmental Research and Services (NUERS), located within the Faculty of Science, offers comprehensive analytical services in environmental research.

These initiatives, including the development of RSPU, NUERS, ESF, and RCF, are examples of how the RS’s core facilities concept strengthens faculties by converting existing resources into high-tech research assets, thereby enhancing the university's academic and research capabilities. These projects support Kuwait University's efforts to elevate its scientific research potential and contribute to capacity-building across various faculties.
